Design Intent
NAK Design Strategies and Brad Johnson prepared a detailed master plan for the Sarnia waterfront with the objectives of improving visual access to the water, creating a major civic space, and providing for recreational activities such as fishing. The holistic design approach resulted in a concept which combines diverse facilities and amenities into an all-season activity complex including a conservatory, restaurants, performance areas, and a civic plaza. A fountain by artist Ron Baird serves as the centerpiece of the plaza, depicting a school of swimming fish on a mass of vertical pipes which create the illusion of water and movement.
