Design Intent
Millennium Park is a family-oriented destination sports & recreation park, being sized at 34 hectares and containing 5 soccer and football fields. This project is located in Cumberland Ward’s emerging East Urban Community in Ottawa’s East end. From its Trim Road entrance, the park is accessed via Millennium Boulevard, an attractive divided tree-lined street that bisects the park and terminates at Giselle Lalonde High School. Ample surface parking for cars and buses along with sidewalks and trails for pedestrians and cyclists ensure easy access to all park users. An on-site loop provides direct access to transit users and the park is located along the future Cumberland Transitway.
Millennium Park caters to organized sports clubs and casual users alike. Its new club house and premiere artificial turf field will provide year-round access to junior clubs. A multitude of active and passive park amenities will appeal to all members of the community, from children to the elderly. Multi-use recreational pathways provide community connections while directing park users to shade structures and treed picnic areas, open lawn areas, a central play zone with climbers, swings, play structures and a splash pad and to the park’s numerous sports fields.
