NAK achieved a big milestone with the recent Council approval of the Town of Caledon Comprehensive Town-Wide Design Guidelines (TWDG). In 2024, NAK was selected to prepare these in-depth guidelines to better position the Town to absorb the significant growth anticipated in the next 30 years. The Town is looking to embrace bold and innovative practices when advancing urban design, quality of space and green standards. The TWDG’s provide an extensive guide for developing complete, mixed-use communities in Caledon, balancing the design of vibrant residential neighbourhoods, commercial/retail areas, industries, and open spaces while looking to preserve the Town’s unique character. These guidelines promote sustainable, climate-friendly places that prioritize walkability, cycling, green spaces, and an animated, interesting, and attractive public realm.
Congratulations and appreciation go to Robin O’Connell, Kathy Kadziela, and Rebecca Carver for successfully leading the project. We would also like to thank key staff at the Town of Caledon for their guidance through the process, including Madhu Debnath, Cassandra Savini and Carmine Caruso. The project has been highlighted in a recent article in Novae Res Urbis (attached), which includes Robin’s insights. Â
